Rich. Welcoming. Inviting.

There's just something comforting about sitting around the fireplace at home. That's what this cocktail reminds us of. It's not smoky, and it's served chilled, but the red wine and walnut bitters give it a warm, soothing feel.

2 oz. Lifted Spirits Bright Gin

3/4 oz. KC Wineworks Chambourcin Wine (or a comparable red)

1/4 oz. Cherry Heering

1 bar spoon Rich Syrup

2 dashes Black Walnut Bitters

Orange Peel (for garnish)

1Prep the Rich Syrup enough in advance that it can cool.

2Chill a coupe glass by filling it with ice and cold water.

3Add all liquid ingredients to a mixing glass.

4Add ice to the mixing glass. Stir.

5Empty the chilled coupe glass.

6Strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe glass.

7Twist orange peel over the drink to express its oils, then place the peel in the glass as garnish.
